Default GNU Nano in Xfce Terminal

Hi,
Does anybody here use GNU Nano regularly? It works fine in a tty, but in
xfce terminal or xterm meta (win key) and alt don't work. Perhaps they
are intercepted by the window manager? Has anyone got it to work
reasonably well in xubuntu?

I prefer using Vim for its shortcuts which
doesn't need win, alt or ctrl keys

I prefer Nano though - I used to use vim but got fed up of having to
change between modes
