Trying to get a working scanner.

So far I have had no luck

lsusb sees the device

xsane doesn't

kooka sees the device when it starts
but when I try to scan an image
it complains about dcopserver not running

googling regarding dcopserver gets me lots of
stuff about people having trouble with dcopserver
but no solutions.
