Ubuntu 8.04 Server gets stack error when booting in VPC 2007 or VS 2005

No way, you get the same error, at least with the ose version of virtual
box which is available on the repositories. On the other side, you could
just try jeOs
it worked fine for me with virtualbox-ose.
