Default Huge icons a bit smaller please

Hi there,

I've got a problem that I can't solve googling.

My screen resolution is 1024 x 768. The icons on my desktop are HUGE.
The icons in applications are also HUGE. De font sizes are too big, the
panel bands are too wide... In short, all interface components are too
big compared to the content that is displayed.

On the laptop of a friend (1400-something wide, 900-something high)
everything looks OK. Much smaller icons, decent font sizes and so on.

We both did a clean install of* 8.04 Hardy from the same DVD. The
installer detects the screen resolution and obviously sets the icon
sizes, fonts and so on.

How do I change the settings? Ubuntu looks like a kid's toy with those
big pictures in the toolbar.

Thanks in advance.

Riemer

Hi Riemer,
try "System" menu > "Preferences" > "Screen Resolution"
and change to 1280 X 1024

or

You may need to do sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg in a terminal,
and add the above resolution to the list there.

Hope this helps

You can try going into Preferences - Appearance and go to the font tab.

Select details...

Make sure your DPI is set to 96.

If that's good, reduce your font sizes from 10 to 8.

Then, open Nautilus, choose Edit - Preferences and set icon size to 75%
or smaller.

Why 96? He didn't mention the size of his screen.
