Default Connecting with Vodafone DSL router

I am in Spain. This apartment came with a Vodafone DSL router, an HG
556a. It connects with a 3g dongle (HSDPA usb stick) which is
connected to the router- there are no cable or DSL connections. To
connect, you load your browser and it takes you to a login screen.

Mostly it works. Sometimes I have trouble connecting to the router
though. Sometimes it is working fine and then quits. Usually all I
have to do is reboot the browser. Sometimes it seems to require that
I un-enable wireless in Network Connections (using Ubuntu 12.04) then
re-enable.

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for making the connection
more reliable and if possible skip the login step (not required in
Windows).

I am using a Samsung netbook.

Thanks

Hi,

An "educated guess" tells me that your router is actually made by Huawei.

I also had problems and still do sometimes (although not using 3g but ADSL), and honestly I could not find any other reason for the problems except for the networking devices (ISPs devices -- they're all Huawei).

I would recommend to try and isolate the problem, and see if you can plug the 3g module directly into your laptop, or ideally in something running 24/7 (and then maybe connect the router as a simple Access Point so you still have wifi). If by eliminating the router you don't experience the same problems, then I guess you've nailed it! :-)

I hope I did understand your problem correctly and this helps.

Regards,
