I'm using Gnome3. I have a desktop launcher that is supposed to open a
web page in a browser. It did, up to a week or so ago, then it started
trying to open a file at that address with gedit! That fails, and gedit
says "error opening file http://wiki.lochiel".
Other desktop launchers work fine, including some that open links in
browsers. It's just this one specific launcher with this one specific
URL that has issues.
The specific URL is http://wiki.lochiel (it's in a private local
domain). The .desktop file with this URL has worked through many
versions of Gnome over the past few years.
If I change the link to open to http://wiki.lochiel?action=login it
works!
A more conventional domain like www.google.com works unadorned.
Bizarre.
Here are the contents of the .desktop file:
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Link
URL=http://wiki.lochiel?action=login
Name[en_AU]=Wiki
Comment[en_AU]=Open the wiki
Name=Wiki
Comment=Open the wiki
Icon=/home/kauer/data/graphics/fred.gif
Running "/usr/bin/env xdg-open http://wiki.lochiel" on the command line
works fine and opens the link in a browser.
Regards, K.
