It looks like this [1] upstream bug.
Ubuntu or Samba's fault?
Temporary workaround: grant all users print operator rights with "net
rpc rights grant Everyone SePrintOperatorPrivilege -S server -U any
user". If the "anyuser" bug's been dealt with, you'll have to use the
admin user.

I'm very disappointed by reading that. Print server is a typical small
business application. I can't believe that Samba and Ubuntu (LTS!) have
released a faulty code in a such important application. What a nasty
surprise! :-(

Hi Frank,
(This is for all, not only you)
You do not need to know programming. You can:
* run development code, and test it (this is also called "QA",
although it is not all that QA does).
* You can report bugs on both Ubuntu and upstream.
* You can respond to requests for specific documentation (logs,
settings, running a specific test & providing the results)
* and so on.
You certainly can do more that state this is a mess. For example, the
bug link provided by Tom H shows a possible bypass (and the upstream
bug shows a different one, which suggests me there is more than one
bug, or these are different manifestations of the same one). You can
*test* the bypass(es), and report back.
Stating this is a mess, and "oy vey (is mir)", is like hammering cold
iron: makes a lot of noise, pisses off everyone else, and does not
really help much.
Please do more. Please *help*.
Cheers,
..C..

Remember that this open source software is mostly supported by
volunteers who donate their time freely for the rest of us.
