Looks like the upgrade process is not getting any update info from the
server it's trying to update from. Server down perhaps.

Can you try an alternative or perhaps ping/traceroute to the server
you're configured to upgrade against?

I have absolutely no idea about how to do that (by the way, I just LOVE your post script message!).

No worries - I'll write up a quick list of steps to go through when I
get home this evening (only have access to AIX machines here, and I
want to give you precise line-by-line instructions so I'll write it up
at home in front of one of my machines). If anyone else wants to chime
in on changing the contents of /etc/sources (if memory serves) in the
mean time feel free to.

Sig quote is attributed to Robert Persig. I think he's right on the
money but this is not the place to discus that.

Now I get the following from the Terminal Emulator:
$ do-release-upgradeChecking for a new ubuntu release
No new release found$*
Oh, well; at least I'm getting a prompt now!

Back to that eh...

Could you indulge me in two things please...

1. run an "sudo apt-get update". Updates ok?
2. post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file

Doesn't <do-release-upgrade -d> require sudo?
try <sudo do-release-upgrade -d>

...and perhaps the reason for no prompt is that a process is still
running in your terminal. Try issuing <Ctrl-C> to see if the prompt
returns.
