OK, cool, thanks.
Right, well, I am not claiming to be the world's greatest expert at
parsing X.11 logfiles, but it looks to me like it is correctly
detecting your GPU and loading the appropriate driver for it.
It identifies it:
[ 635.215] (==) Matched openchrome as autoconfigured driver 0
Then loads the driver:
[ 635.215] (II) LoadModule: "openchrome"
[ 635.216] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so
[ 635.216] (II) Module openchrome: vendor="http://openchrome.org/"
[ 635.216] compiled for 1.11.3, module version = 0.2.904
[ 635.216] Module class: X.Org Video Driver
[ 635.216] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 11.0
Which initialises:
[ 635.392] (II) OPENCHROME: Driver for VIA Chrome chipsets: CLE266,
KM400/KN400,
K8M800/K8N800, PM800/PM880/CN400, VM800/P4M800Pro/VN800/CN700,
CX700/VX700, K8M890/K8N890, P4M890, P4M900/VN896/CN896, VX800/VX820,
VX855/VX875, VX900
(...)
[ 635.394] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so
[ 635.394] (!!) VIA Technologies does not support this driver in any way.
[ 635.394] (!!) For support, please refer to http://www.openchrome.org/.
[ 635.394] (!!) (development build, compiled on Tue Feb 14 18:51:55 2012)
The thing that is not working is detecting the screen.
So I suggest you try the "empty" xorg.conf file I linked to from my
blog post a couple of messages ago.
