Can't play DVD movies
VLC gives me this message
Playback failure: DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/dvd". Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/dvd'. Check the log for details. You might try installing the Ubuntu Restricted Extras package.

Can't play DVD movies
In order for me to use VLC or any other program for that mattern I havr to choose /dev/sr0 (on my laptop at least) hope that this helps and that you have solved the problem. I think you can use gparted (or "disk utility") to check what your computer is assigning the dvd to. Great movie choice btw!
