while i am trying to boot ubuntu from usb the display not work but i
can hear the login sound from the speaker. Also i can hear the tone of
volume up and down key etc..
i think the problem is related with graphics. i tried almost all the
linux version on it like mint, ubuntu etc. i can see a linux driver
file for radeon graphics on amd website. the file with the extention
of .run. i think that the file only work in linux. with out seeing
the display i can't install these files...

Boot the "alternative" image rather than the stock image. It'll boot
in text mode rather than gui, but it should be enough to get you going
and to install the drivers for your AMD card.

Ok - there are two versions of the Ubuntu installer.



The "usual" one, which uses a GUI to guide you through the

installation process and an "alternative" image which performs the

installation in text mode. You don't make any choice on whether to

install in graphics mode or text mode than putting the relevant disk

into the drive.





Which image did you download from the link I provided?



Did you burn it to a CD/DVD as bootable media and have you tried to

boot your machine from this CD/DVD?



When you say you're trying to install from USB, how are you doing

this? You're creating a bootable USB stick using something like

unetbootin?



When you say you can hear the "login" sound, which "login" sound do

you hear? I don't believe the Ubuntu installer has a "login" sound

until you have actually gone through the entire installation process.



Don't worry about downloading and finding drivers for your graphics

card until you've actually got the base operating system installed.

STEVE SORRY* FOR THE LATE REPLAY..

i download the file" ubuntu-11.10-alternate-amd64.iso.torrent file from the page u provided..

i successfully installed* base os in my system in text mode.
i also download a file from the amd website "amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run" for my graphics card( radeon hd 6500m.)
when i reboot the system i can see 4 options

1) ubuntu 11.10 generic
2)ubuntu 11.10 textmode or recovery
3) mem test
etc..

when i enter to generic the dispaly become off.. i can simply log in to the system in text mode.
can i install the above driver from the pendrive in text mode? how? plz help

At the menu, highlight option 1 and edit the boot options.

find "quiet" and "splash" and change to "noquiet" and "nosplash" and
also add "nomodeset"

Now boot that configuration.

Hopefully you'll get either some indication what the problem was or
you'll eventually get a displayed screen. Let us know what the outcome
is.
