Default Why no md5sums on download page

I wonder why there are no md5sums on
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download, nor is there any
suggestion in the instructions that one should check the downloaded
file.
Is it safe to assume that if a download completes without errors that it is ok?

I have eventually found the sums at
http://releases.ubuntu.com/oneiric/ but this does not seem to be
linked to from anywhere obvious.

Done
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-website/+bug/873462
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-website/+bug/873464

I put separate bugs in for the fact that they are not linked to and
for including instructions for how to check the file.
