vmware server package?
I was loading software on a machine at work this week, and I would swear
that I found a vmware-server package. I decided to not install this on the machines at work, but I planed on putting it on my laptop this weekend. Yet apt-cache search seems to not be able to find it. So, I tried http://packages.ubuntu.com/#search_packages and it could not find it either. Nevertheless, the vmware-server package is tricky - or at least it was the last time I installed it, it needed another patch in order to get the vmmon (?) module compiled. ...So if you have troubles installing vmware-server after enabling the partner repository and if you decide it's indeed a headache to install, you could always try out VirtualBox: it works like a charm, no extra config needed, networking works out of the box and so on. For the virtualisation purposes I'm using VirtualBox for I didn't find by now anything that it cannot do comparing to VMWare Server.
