I imagine you are using Unity GUI which is why remove from panel is not there.
What happens if you click Exit on the menu in that link?

From left hand column, navigate to:
Plugins & Ad-ons -> Extensions
Remove check mark from JD Light Tray

Yes I am using Unity so far. Is there an official user manual? I miss
quite a lot of functions from previous gnome.
