I see what you mean about the basic font display in FF 5.0. However once
the dropdown is selected the numbers do fit in the selection box.

Just tested a FF 7 and the issue is there as well. So I then updated
that to 8.0a1:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:8.0a1) Gecko/20110712 Firefox/8.0a1
and the issue has been fixed there. The fonts do display the number in
the standard box and the advanced box.

Sorry, forgot to add that if you'd like to test FF8 for your bug report
Colin, you can download from here:

http://nightly.mozilla.org/

Extract the .bz2 to a home folder & then run 'firefox' from the /firefox
folder.

Just to add to this: you will also need to add a 'plugins' folder in
/.mozilla so that the plugins will work - and this will require creating
a symlink to the java plugin.

I downloaded/extracted, cd'd to the dir and ran 'firefox' but when I
looked at "help'about..." it says it's version 3.6.18.
What did I do wrong?

The current directory usually isn't included in the PATH and therefore
you started the system wide installed firefox. Try "./firefox" instead.

Thanks for that, I have tested it and added a comment to the bug
report. I have not been able to check that it fixes the issue in
ReminderFox as this is not yet compatible with FF8, but I expect it
will.

Will I automatically get upgraded to FF8 when it is released (on Natty)?

To test ReminderFox, you can do one of two things:

1. Got to /home/<user>/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>/extensions and look
for the ReminderFox extension. Find the index.rdf file and modify to
allow 8 - similar to (this is not ReminderFox so the id is different):

<em:targetApplication> <!-- Firefox -->
<Description>
<em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>8.0a1*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>

2. Better option: Install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter:
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/>
This will disable compatibility checking, so you can test to see if the
addon actually works with 8.0a1. If so, you can send a report back to
Mozilla (via addon manager) & let them know if it works or not.

I reckon so. But I suspect it will be some time before Ubuntu actually
implements 8.

OK, I did that and unfortunately found that ReminderFox still exhibits
the symptom. I have reported this in the Firefox bug [1] and the
ReminderFox one [2].

I suspect you are right, I see that I am still on FF 5.0. Not that it
matters at the moment since it does not fix the problem anyway
