Default suddenly, my package lists seem broken

just tried to watch a video in chrome, only to be presented with
"Missing plug-in". huh? and when i tried to update, i got:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/ca.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_bina ry-amd64_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

is there an aptitude "clean" suboption i can try to rectify this?
