I live in Springfield, MO.
Only Linux users group I knew of died due to lack of interest.

I looked for a hardware/software vendor. All I found was someone
willing to sell me hardware, charge me for Windows(tm), charge me
for a Linux distro, charge me for installing Linux. Guess what
company will _NEVER_ get my business. *LOL* ;/


An acquaintance, knowing how I think, has recommended Ubuntu.

Are you willing to assemble your own hardware? It's not hard to do. I
can supply part numbers for the vital parts like motherboard, graphics
card, that went into my son's new Ubuntu PC.

Thanks for all the responses.
I could have phrased my subject line better by omitting the word
"support". {I was going in circles over something trivial at the
moment so the word 'support' came to mind ;}


What I'm really looking for is a users' group within driving
distance. As I'm retired, acceptable driving distance is
open-ended. My learning style is such that I like to listen to
how others use things, what problems they encounter, and how they
solve them. Reading this and a general Linux group daily takes
care of a lot of that.


As to questions others have raised:
1. Hardware is not an issue. I've about a dozen unused
boxes ranging from a Kaypro-10 (got a *nix for that one
to a recent vintage IBM Thinkpad (model ???).

If I chose new hardware I'll probably avoid online vendors.
Although they are Windows only shops, I've dealt with one
local vendor for ~20 years and there are two other brick-
n-mortar vendors with whom I've had good experiences. That
puts the onus on me for choosing appropriately - that's
fine.

2. There's a stub for Springfield somewhere in the

nowhere.

Yes, I'll do a +1 for zareason also! Our first factory machines were Dell
inspiron 1525n but then Dell dropped the ball and quit offering decent Linux
only machines. We looked and found a new supplier in zareason. All set up
and ready to go with all the power you want and need to have!! We also do not
do "steenkin Windoze"!! Zareason also puts Ubuntu "super keys" on their
machines! We however, have way more use for laptops as we need them in the
field! Desktops I usually build from donated machines for our office work and we
did fire a person last year for trying to connect to our network with a windoze
machine.
