password to log onto system Ubuntu
 

I am new to Linux, starting with Ubuntu.* I use windows otherwise, and when i log onto my machine, i have a password , yet when i boot using Ubuntu, the password is not accepted...the user name is the same it would appear, and i cannot use a blank or use the 'other' logon.* any ideas please?
