64 bit Flash is a work in progress
Look, if I bring up the config for Flash (32bit)
in Maverick, it locks up and I can never get rid of the
config screen.

Strange, it works perfectly for me with 10.10/64, Firefox 3.6.13 and Shockwave Flash 10.2 d161 (Square).

Same here, it works too with Flash (non-square).
Jesse, Karl, have you tried "sudo update-alternatives --config
firefox-flashplugin" if you have install more than 1 instance of flash?

It could also be the java (ice-tea).
