Is there any "official" way of permanently killing this?

No, we have several boxes doing this, internally on the company LAN.
We just want no inbound ports open at all by default on client
machines, that's all.

Just read the forum thread.

Try 'touch /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run' and then '/etc/init.d/ssh stop'

It should no longer run.
