Default 10.04 upgrade problem: typo3-database

While upgrading to 10.04, I hit a problem with typo3-database. When I
typed in a reasonably complex password during the configure, I got
"Access denied for user root@localhost using password YES"
To complete the installation I eventually used the 'ignore' option and got
warnings about it not being installed and my system might be unstable.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is typo3-database important? Are there major consequences in not having it?
I.e. do I need to spend a lot of time finding out how to install it, or can
I just ignore it? The machine is working OK so far.

I would think just from simple logic that the password for an
upgrade would be the one you used on the older version. Or it would ask
for a new password. Seems like those are the two options.

OK thanks. I guess I did, but quite a long time ago, and I don't actually
use it now - not everything that isn't used gets removed. But my problem was
that during installation of 10.04 I configured the password as '*******'
and it complained that I couldn't use 'YES' as the password and then its
failure to install left me wondering what might be wrong with the upgrade
because of the warnings about potential instability, which are obviously a
bit over the top for a package like that. I've (after a couple of attempts)
persuaded synaptic to un-install it altogether.

Otherwise, the upgrade went fine, apart from the usual very minor
irritations.
