Default Plantronics 655 headset's volume controls issue on Ubuntu 9.10

The Plantronics 655 headset's seems to work good with Ubuntu 9.10 Linux
as long as you don't use the volume controls on the headset itself. Once
they're touched, a volume level panel appears, flickering and locking
out most of the system until you pull the usb plug. This then makes you
have to reset your sound setting. Has any got a fix for this or is
working on one?

Default Plantronics 655 headset's volume controls issue on Ubuntu 9.10

The Plantronics Audio 655 USB headset does act just as you said, on my computer also.* I have no problem as long as I do not touch the volume control on the headset.* Just control the volume using the Gnome sound applet on the taskbar at the top of your screen.*

[Note: when using the headset, be sure to select it and to deselect other sound output entries in the Sound Preference -> Hardware tab of the Gnome sound applet, or your computer may be confused and the go crazy, until you reboot.]

Any reason not to just ignore the on-headset volume control?

It's just convenient for anyone, and it's especially easier to use when
one has a dexterity issue due to something like C.P., M.S., Parkinson,
etc.
