Well, I am out of suggestions.* I also did the same thing you did and
the trash can did not appear on my desktop either.* Just did not want
to kill the windowing system at the moment so I threw out the restart
suggestion.* Guess I was wrong.* I always right click on items for the
Move To Trash so I do not even have the trash can icon on my desktop at
all.** Might want to check the Ubuntu Forums.* They often have some

Would right clicking on the top panel and left clicking upon Add to
Panel help?



You can scroll down to Trash icon, highlight it and then click on Add
and then Close.



I just added the Trash icon to my top panel.*

Oddly enough it's now working on both systems this morning. Maybe my
desktops were just too tired to perform last night, but do so now that
they are fully rebooted & rested :-)
