Only around 10 per cent of those upgrading or installing reported a
completely flawless experience.

According to the poll on the forums[1], 37.81% of users had extreme
issues. Less than 30% had flawless, with the majority having a few
problems here and there. It looks like the article was published before
many users had actually posted their experience.

I still believe this is too high, but it does not seem as dire as some
have reported. Lots of issues to be worked out.

I find it interesting that the article quotes w00ly complaining about
encryption while installing 9.04, don't know if it's a typo or misplaced
commentary.

I am having problems too. I suspect that a lot of people got upgraded, as I
did, without realizing what was happening until it was too late. Despite the
fact that LINUX is somewhat better than Windows I got burnt so many times
by the latest and greatest releases of DOS and Windows that I learned a
long time ago that it is very risky to be among the first adopters. I
had a lot
of problems going from Windows to Ubuntu and am scared.

For a new users dealing with problems can be a big wall, or locked door.

I am hoping that the problems will be fixed with 9.10 and future upgrades
will include the fixes.

The Beta and RC was in pretty widespread use for a while before the
release date, which *should* have ironed out many bugs.
But I think one problem Ubuntu might be facing here is a large
proportion of beta 'testers' who do so to have the bleeding-edge
software rather than for the rigorous expulsion of bugs. And a
peculiarly large install base on near-identical hardware (VirtualBox)

There certainly seemed to be fewer problems than I was expecting given
the large changes.

Does this happen under specific conditions? I'm asking because my swap=20
is 5GB on a debian squeeze 64bit box, and it inits in an instant.
