Default Firefox not getting on line at all

Hi everybody,
I have two computers both sporting the new Ubuntu
9.10 desktop and neither of them will get Firefox on line.
One is an XP PC partitioned and takes nearly five minutes to get to the
file loader for Ubuntu or PC. 250 gig hard drive and
one and a half gig memory should be enough as I keep everything clean.
The other is a dedicated new Ubuntu desktop with
250 gig hard drive and one gig of memory and now that one will only give
me a low resolution screen despite the fact that it
worked fine before on 9.04 and neither of the computers had problems
with Firefox before installing 9.10.
Any help would be appreciated.
