Get this failure when running:
$ glGo
glGo: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The same problem without a solution is described at
http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Ubuntu/2008-12/msg02686.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2008-December/170217.html
http://osdir.com/ml/ubuntu-users/2008-12/msg02685.html
suggests using qGo.
Installed gGo with synaptic package manager.
Where was it installed, i.e., how do I
start it?

The program you want is named qGo, not gGo. It shows up in
Applications>Games. It's the best Go client on all OS.

He is right but having faced this too, I just ran it with wine. I
can't remember how well it worked but I use the qgo or quarry go or
gtkgo. I like quarry for game reviews. I also have started playing
much more on KGS because I like the community features of there java
downloaded player.

I'm not sure I understand the problem actually. If it's qGo not showing
in the menus, I've had installed qGo on i386 through Breezy to Hardy and
AFAIR it's always shown in the menus at Applications>Games. On Intrepid
amd64 which I'm using atm, it's the same.
(Versions of qGo prior to Gutsy had segfault problem, but it's solved
now (and I provided a package for Dapper on qGo's site, but Dapper is
ending its life soon anyway).
If none of you have qGo showing in the menus, could you try reinstalling
the packages, and if it still doesn't show up could you tell us the
result of the command:
qgo
launched in a terminal?
Loïc
(sorry I'm also CC-ing you, but if there's a problem with qGo in certain
releases of Ubuntu I'd certainly like to know)

32 bit panda-glGo install on 64 bit system
*2009-02-05
started synaptic package manager from su.
searched for "go".
found listed as installed
*qgo** version 1.5.4-r2-1
*gnugo version 3.7.11-2
removed both of them
qgo was not shown in applications > games
reinstalled ggo and gnugo using synaptic package manager
Saw this in details window of package manager:
Selecting previously deselected package gnugo.
(Reading database ... 285804 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking gnugo (from .../gnugo_3.7.11-2_amd64.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package qgo.
Unpacking qgo (from .../qgo_1.5.4-r2-1_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up gnugo (3.7.11-2) ...
Setting up qgo (1.5.4-r2-1) ...
Then did
$ whereis qgo
qgo: /usr/games/qgo /usr/share/man/man6/qgo.6.gz
Looked in applications > games
and do not see any iccon for qgo or gnugo between
Potato Guy and Robots.
Did ls -alt > ~/x.txt and attached that file.
Running command qgo from home directory starts what is label
*qGoClient V1.5.4 in the banner at the top of the window.
Information about my environment:
from system monitor:
Release 8.04
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-23-generic
GNOME 2.22.3
Do you want other information?
I assume I am doing something wrong.
Thanks,
Howard
