Default Screensaver-discussion !

Hello all out there,

please stop the discussion about sreensavers. This is the year 2009,
flatscreens don't need screensavers.
Everyone using his pc specially to looking screensavers, should change to
MS-Windows. Under this os
screensavers are the only applications, running very good.

I think this mailinglist exists to help us together in solving problems. A
screensaver is not such one.

Since this discussion started, I got a swall of messages like ugly spam.

Greetings

hannah josephine dippe

I think the guy was trying to stop his screensaver from kicking in --
even uninstalling it has no use. I can imagine his situation.

I don't think you can stop any discussion on the list.

> This is the year 2009, flatscreens don't need screensavers.

Wrong for two reasons. a) Not everybody is using flat screens. b) Even
flat screens need more power while they are on. You can use a screen
saver to shut down the monitor (CRT or flat screen) via DPMS to save
energy. Of course screen savers which display some fast moving graphics
don't save energy but cost extra energy.

Spam would be unsolicited commercial mail and this is neither unsolicited
nor commercial. After all you signed up for this high volume list.

Hello Nils,

thanks for your answer!

This moment, I will unsubscribe!

You should know that I'm an ibm-specialist for really running os like OS400
and MVS/ESA. Linux'n windows are children-toys for me.

Nothing but all, in the time of only 8 weeks I implemented a network
consists
of a lot brand new and bad old computers under windows'n ubuntu.
Something runs good, there was no problem, except WLAN-configuration and
display-resolution by older thinkpads.

I learned that ubuntu is a little bit tricky, but understanding the spirit
of the open-
source-community, it's a really great thing.

Whish you and all the others, out there in your magic space, to touch down
succesfully to the base of serious computing. <STS20090110>

At the risk (err, make that, almost certainty) of feeding Trolls.

Is dated. Instead, go to the source:
http://www.top500.org/stats/list/32/os
Operating System share for 11/2008

Jerk. So what if they don't need them - people LIKE them.

I think this mailing list exists to help people with ANY Ubuntu issues, and
if somebody wants to talk about screensavers, they're welcome.

That's not our fault.

As far as I understand the operating systems of the first poster
are not for supercomputing but for mainframes or management.

Best,

This is correct - Hannah is apparently a zOS ops analyst/systems
programmer. The machines Hannah and I use at work are the kinds of
machines you find your bank using, rather than high performance/speed
machines. The emphasis is on high uptime/availability rather than high
processing power.

Mind you, she refers to them as MVS/ESA which hasn't been sold by IBM
for several years now - it's been called zOS for quite sometime. An
old timer perhaps... much like myself!
