I am running Kubuntu 8.04.1 on an HP desktop with an integrated card reader instead of a floppy drive. Here is my lsusb:

The problem:
The card reader includes a standard USB 2.0 port (like the one in the back, for a regular USB stick) which works fine, but when I plug a MicroSD Adapter with a card in it to the appropriate place in the same reader - nothing happens...
I don't own a USB stick right now, but I do like to use the card adapter to transffer stuff to my cell phone faster than the Bluetooth connection...
