Did you do something like?:
sudo tasksel install lamp-server
If so, what about doing int the four fold way?:
sudo aptitude install apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server
Any info in one of the /var/log files?

hey carl i had tried both of the methods u mentioned yesterday but it didnt work
and now today wen i tried it worked with tasksel, weird at times huh
