Default report a bug to Launchpad via commandline interface?

Hi all

I reported a bug with web browser to launchpad.net. Is there a simple
command line client for the same job?

I remember Debian have something like that.

regards
Sven

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

There sort-of is - don't use it!

The program is reportbug. It's been broken as long as there's _been_ an
Ubuntu, and there's been a bug in Launchpad as long as there's been a
launchpad (and wherever the bug tracker was before that). I think the bug
is 5 years old, and still unfixed.

If you use reportbug, it will simply send an email to this list, annoying
everybody and solving nothing.

It looks like it will be removed for the Ibex release.
(finally, eh?)

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place.
Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are,
by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

actually, a mere FOUR.

You think? Nothing has been posted to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/reportbug/+bug/228183 since I
last was in a spat there, and it wasn't going to be removed then.

Nothing has been posted to bug 36186 - which calls fixing it a "wishlist"
item, so it's fair to say that will _never_ be dealt with - since May.

I've seen promises of fixes ever since the bug was first noted, and nobody's
ever come through, so I'll believe it when I no longer see it...

I appreciate everything that the Ubuntu development community does for
me/us. That being said, the fastest way to get the bug moved from a
'wishlist' to 'critical' or dropped all together, would be to use
reportbug, A LOT. If my inbox were filling up with bug reports I would
either fix the the report tool or make sure it got removed from the next
release.

The sad fact is that in our current society the squeaky wheel is the one
that gets the grease. I am not going to squeak about this because I
don't really care, but if you truly care, make a little noise.

My apologies; further reading shows that it is the package,
reportbug-ng which is to be removed.

That would be true if a large number of Ubuntu developers were
subscribers to the users' list, but, as far as I know that is not the
case. So, it would be *our* in-boxes that would fill, not theirs.

It could be argued that this is precisely why it has not been fixed,
but that would be cynical, and not in the spirit of Ubuntu ;-)

*cough*

The noise needs to be directed to the right ears, though.

That would work if reportbug actually filed bugs on a developer list, but in
fact it files them _here_.
