Default How to login as root and edit smb.conf

Try to edit it as root. In a terminal type the command

gksu gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf

Unless you setup a password for root, you can't login as root. Use the
command

sudo su

or

sudo -i

in a terminal to get a root shell. For details look here:
