That might do the trick. Create a new directory/folder, copy the .iso
file (ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) and the wubi.exe file from the CD
into that new directory/folder. Then remove the CD and double click on
the wubi.exe.

Ok, I have no solution on this problem. I can't install Ubuntu. Every
time after Step 5 of 7 totally the installation don't work forward.
Without any error messages. The system stay on there.
I tested it with the Desktop Live CD (AMD64 and I386). Both the same.
I often tried to create some new partitions but not successful. Or I
can't use the Partition Manager of Ubuntu correctly.
Anyone can say me in step by step instruction what I need to do to
create 3 new partitions?
1: for Ubuntu
2: for /home
3: for swap

Thanks in advance for helping.

Yes, I did it. The result was the same as from the CD... "Could not
access". I created a new folder on my hard drive, copied the both files
in their and started the WUBI.exe file. No CD on the CD/DVD drive in.

By now this must be driving you nuts... Can you please try 2 more
alternates - both will require downloads: cd and dvd, and both do not
involve Ubuntu.

download the standard knoppix CD and the DVD.

The CD will boot a KDE version of linux on just about any machine.

The DVD version contains ADRIANE which is specifically designed for the
blind.
