Default KDE4.1 & Seamonkey Issue

Am using hardy x86-64, KDE4.1 and can only start
Seamonkey from the cli interface(Konsole). When I try
to start Seamonkey from the K menu or a seamonkey icon
in the panel, it will do the busy cursor routine for
some time then just disappear. No problem running
firefox or opera from menu or icon, just seamonkey.
Seamonkey runs ok from cli but outputs errors shown
below(can anyone offer a fix or link that would help):

TIA,

Do you have Icedtea installed?
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/icedtea-gcjwebplugin

How did you install SeaMonkey?

could install seamonkey.

Description: The Seamonkey Internet Suite
The Seamonkey Internet Suite is a set of Internet
oriented applications. It is the continuity of the
Mozilla Suite after it has been abandoned in favor of
Firefox
and Thunderbird.

The Seamonkey Internet Suite consists of:
* an Internet browser (Seamonkey Navigator)
* an HTML WYSIWYG editor (Seamonkey Composer)
* a Mail and News client (Seamonkey Mail &
Newsgroups)
* an Address Book (Seamonkey Address Book)
* an IRC client (Chatzilla)

This is a meta package that depends on the main
components of this suite. It is here to ease upgrades,
installations, and provide a consistent upgrade path
from
previous versions.

It can safely be removed with no ill effects.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I do not
have any 64bit systems to test on. Can you try with a new SM profile:

seamonkey -P

and then create a new profile. This will eliminate any possible issues
that may have occured on the default install profile.

Also:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/hardy/seamonkey
You might want to do a complete reinstall given that you are early into
this:

sudo apt-get remove --purge seamonkey
sudo apt-get install seamonkey

Well, I ran the above command just as shown and got
the cursor back. Never did this before(Proffile) so
let me know if I need to do something else.

Have done this but will do again just in case. Thanks

Your Seamonkey outputs far more errors than mine; however, I'm using the
32-bit Seamonkey from Mozilla.org. I was surprised to see you say that
you can run Seamonkey from the CLI even after you get an error loading
libxul.so which is critical to Mozilla applications.

Examine the file ~/.xsession-errors to see if Seamonkey leaves any
useful error messages as it fails to load.

Sorry, I forgot that it is case sensitive; should be:

seamonkey -p

Click on the "Manage Profiles", the "Create Profile" and you can create
a new profile - perhaps name it 'test'. Then if you want to try to start
with that profile:

seamonkey - test

That way you won't mess up anything in your existing default profile.
BTW: you should of course backup your ~/.mozilla folder to
~/x-.mozilla-x before you fiddle around with your profiles etc... just
in case :-)

For the Application menu issue: I don't know how to do it in KDE, but in
Gnome it is right clicking Applications, then Edit Menus, then
'Internet' then right click on 'SeaMonkey' and check to see if the
command shows: seamonkey %u
You can also enter a direct path: click the Browse button, browse to
your SeaMonkey installation location (/usr/bin/) and click on seamonkey.
That will place the command: /usr/bin/seamonkey/seamonkey in the menu.
Note: be sure to use the browse button to get to the path/file as
sometimes (at least on Gnome) just putting in the path and command
doesn't always work.

OK, did this and it loads. BTW, I could load both
opera and seamonkey via cli before just not via K menu
or panel applet icon and still can't.

Only menu format is different in KDE vs. Gnome. All
have %u after the file name and firefox, which works
in all aspects, has no work path and location is
/usr/share/applications and the others have
/home/lchata/.local/share/applications. All these dirs
have the <file name>.desktop in it, nothing else.

Did this but I only see "/usr/bin" in my kde41. No
difference in results.

Did this also, but the browse menu only shows
non-hidden dirs, no /.files or dir are shown so I cant
get to the hidden ones. I would change the location to
/usr/share/applications for opera and seamonkey but
there doesn't seem to be a method for doing this.
Don't think a "dpkg-reconfigure" would get anywhere; I
just get a prompt back when I try it. Open to any
suggestions and will try them but maybe this is a
candidate for a bug report. Thanks for the help.

Log in through a virtual console and start X like so:

startx > err2.txt 2>&1

Then start Seamonkey and see if any error messages appear. Also, try to
find out what the Seamonkey icon in the panel is trying to launch; the
path to the program might be wrong.
