Default Mouse wheel scroll down stopped working

Hi Guys,

My mouse wheel stopped working properly when I scroll down. Scrolling
up is pretty good but scroll down 1 out of 3 trial works. Sometimes it
starts working ok, then goes back to the old state again..

Does anybody have an idea?

The only section that is relevant to mouse is the following from
"xorg.conf" file:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
EndSection

As for my laptop's system parameters:

$uname -r
Linux vaio-laptop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 23:41:49 UTC
2008 i686 GNU/Linux

$ lsb_release -a
