Hi Chaman,

Maybe there are clues in the X11 log. Please try posting the output
of this command:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

Hello,

Here is the output for your view.* One more thing I noticed when
I executed driinfo utility: it says that libGL is too old. But I am
sure that I had downloaded the latest Mesa 7.0.3 and this version

is installed on my machine. Can it give some hints to the problem ?

Thanks.

Well, I thought there might be an error or two in the X11 log, but I
guess not. Sorry for the distraction...

I'm don't know what the driinfo utility is, can you point me to a
reference so that I can try?

Can you please post the output of:

dmesg | grep drm

It should return something like this:
$ dmesg | grep drm
[ 95.528809] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[ 95.643644] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20060119 on minor 0

Also please post the output of:

uname -a

And the output of:

grep -i "Direct rendering" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

It should return something like this:
$ grep -i "Direct rendering" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) I810(0): direct rendering: Enabled

Nope, you did fine. But quite honestly I'm stumped. You are still
getting the light glxgears?

Hello,

One of my friend installed Fedora on a similar machine, and I checked that machine with glxinfo:

it reported Direct Rendering: YES. I was wondering if my machine is the only with Direct Rendering NO.
Should I reinstall everything afresh ?

Thanks.

If I had to guess I'd say his IGP is older than the i810 chipset and
thus DRM with his chipset won't be supported.
What kind of CPU does he have?

I just did glxinfo on my Ubuntu Hardy and it says Direct Rendering
YES so yes something is wrong on your system. I suggest you read man
glxinfo and see if there is a way to change NO to YES.
