Telling someone to go to the link to unsubscribe is not the appropriate
course of action.
The list maintainer(s) need to accept all unsubscribe requests from the
mailing list and remove the requester as soon as possible.
Replying that the individual needs to follow a link is akin to saying
the individual is less then intelligent, and encourages that individual
to spread negativity about our project.

P.S. Can we verify the original poster is removed from the mailing list?

Told the individual to email the appropriate address, not go there.
Since you have to verify your email address when you
subscribe/unsubcribe to the mailing lists, it is not possible for
anyone else to do so.

As for the list maintainer, I don't know how busy they are, nor whether
or not they see every email to determine if it is an unsubscribe
request. I believe if the individual was able to subscribe, he/she
should be able to follow correct procedure to unsubscribe.

Because this is a maillist, it is on the bottom of my message also and at the
bottom of everybody else's message who uses this maillist.
