to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=812410, which acquaints one with cinderela, LiVES, Kdenlive, kino, etc. I have no basis for responding as far as video editing, but 9.10 has been a stable OS otherwise with exception I've seen OO 3.1 crash often. *

ubuntu 9.10 stable?
If you are happy with our 8.04, stay with it. wait for the next LTS release 10.04
As far if 9.10 is stable, for me it is.
Take care with the installer, because you will need a working internet connection at install time. If you cant have that INTERNET connection, then install US without the audio, graph and video packages. You can install them later on with synaptics package manager
