Of course you can do things without X - like Ecasound/HDR on Duron 800
with 256 M RAM:

But do not call that machine Studio...

Or less than 2 GHz CPU.

You can make do with less, and there's always some guy bragging how he got 983
LADPSPA plugins, 412 DSSI plugins, and 42 instances of QSynth to run
beautifully with Rosegarden and Ardour and JAMin on a PII-233 with 64 MB of
RAM just by running TinyWM and shutting down all non-essential services...

BUT...

Guys like that are nuts. Sorry, but it's true.
