According to the ffado project's website, the Presonus firebox is
reported to work. Have you tried using ffado as the backend to jack
instead of FreeBob? (Note, to do this, it will require compiling
libffado yourself and recompiling jack yourself. If you don't want to do
this, wait till I've packaged libffado and put it and jack into a ppa).
Thanks,
Andrew.

In future, please don't top post and even better, interleave the
relevent sections.
As for ffado, I hope to get started on that today. What problems exactly
are you having with libffado? Have you been following this[1] guide?

Thanks,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Recompiling drivers is a little out of the range of my technical
skills. I'll wait. thanks heaps.
I can follow simple instructions and make music.
It's great that there's hope for the Firebox.
peace
Hamish
