Directory Server on Ubuntu?
Hello Devs,
I'd like to ask about the current state of the directory server project for Ubuntu. The 389 directory server PPA hasn't seen any activity for the last year, but there has been some activity on blueprints for Lucid relating to the FreeIPA project. So, what is the current state? What is the current recommendation if one were to build a directory server on Ubuntu? Packages tend to flow from Debian, so you probably didn't notice that the pkg-fedora-ds team (well, Michele Baldessari) has done further work on the packages: http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-fedora-ds/ http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-fedora-ds have a look and help out :) -- Timo Aaltonen Systems Specialist Aalto IT -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam |
Directory Server on Ubuntu?
Hello,
I recommend and personally use OpenLDAP.The packages in repo are easy to use and install and there is plenty of documentation in the server guide (atleast when I installed back on 9.10). Bye. Easy way right off the top of my head would be to use openbox, based
on Ubuntu LTS versions. And to my knowledge they are close to release for 10.4. My vote for OpenLDAP, you can build a secure directory server integrating MIT Kerberos with OpenLDAP and provide a real single sign on enviroment, and.. if you want to control windows machines you can add samba to the recipe and provide semi domain controller. Adding kerberos to a ldap directory it is essential for a secure enviroment. Afaik, there are information in the server guide for integrating mit kerberos, openldap and samba. There is a neat solution called Zivios which integrates this services to provide a real sso enviroment based on kerberos, ldap, dns and other services la Certificate Authority, it works on ubuntu server 8.04 and have a nice gui.
