Upgrade of what ? From what version to what version ? Host version ? Guests version ? command lines used ?

If you want someone to help you, you have to be as detailed as possible.

Default Kvm guests do not start after upgrade

Try removing the qemu-kvm and libvirt packages ( don't purge them, or if you do, save your configurations files ).
Reboot.
Install packages again ( best done with aptitude install ubuntu-virt-server if on server or ubuntu-virt-mgmt if you're on a desktop pc ).

This worked for me.
