Default Why p7zip isn't updated about 4 Ubuntu major releases?

Hi,

The "p7zip" package in natty/maverick/lucid/karmic [1] repository
contains p7zip version 9.04, which dates from 2009 [2] and looks like it
was taken from Debian unstable. The latest version is p7zip 9.20.1 from
2011.

Why p7zip isn't updated about 4 Ubuntu major releases?

As you said, taken from debian. You might contact Debian's maintainer, and if he/she updates it, the package will be updated on Ubuntu too, everyone gets happy and the world, a better place. If the maintainer is not interested anymore, perhaps you could take over and become the maintainer for Debian...

Because it wasn't updated in Debian. It looks like it was updated in
experimental last month. Should hit unstable soon hopefully and be
syned to Ubuntu during Oneiric.
