Default Problem reporting a bug- USB regression?

Michal,

I'm not on the kernel team any longer so I've forward your email to
the kernel team mailing list, they should be able to help you there.

thanks

Hello,
I have been using Asus F3SG laptop with Ubuntu for some time, to this
dayt without any major problems. I had a very strange issue for quite
some time (it started back in the 8.04 days, I think): on the laptop
start, webcam diod was always on. Starting Cheese or Camorama resulted
in the program crash and brought back my webcam to any usefulness.

However, I recently updated to Quantal and, to my unpleasant surprise,
using my usual work-around resulted in system being totally hanged. By
"system" I mean everything, not only GUI. To rule out intrusions or
actvation of the webcam by malicious software: diod lights up on every
boot, exactly with lightdm screen becoming active (before loging in)
with normal, even fresh, install or when opening GUI, when running from
LiveCD.

Therefore my question is: how can I report a bug like this? I am not a
developer, not even close (or far, to be honest), just a curious user
trying to test and report some bugs. Yet I can't report it in a normal
way, with apport. I write to you, because I think that the fact that the
whole system dies is kernel-related.

I think that this issue may be USB related (as lightning of the diode
occured on plugging USB devices- I assume that webcam uses USB bus.
Here's very brief laptop specification
http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/208941/asus-f3sg-
ap015c/specifications . If you decide this issue is worth of Your
attention, I'll be happy to assist with any information I can gather on
the issue.
Thank you in advance,
Michał Marynowski

You can report the bug the old fashioned way by using Launchpad
directly: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug
