It has the potential to affect a *LOT* of systems that are currently
working fine with Gutsy. This affects bootable CDs and installed
systems.
The trigger appears to be a Notify() call in the embedded controller EC
_REG() control method coupled with the early EC init introduce in commit
c04209a7948b95e8c52084e8595e74e9428653d3.
The work-around could be as simple as removing the "quiet" boot option -
not exactly elegant, but doable.
I have a large collection of DSDTs from across the Vaio range as part of
my SNC research. I ran an analysis script on them to see how many might
be affected:

As noted in my previous email on 12th April, this bug is likely to cause
issues for quite a lot of machines. The bug is already getting a steady
number of additional reports since Hardy was released.
