I've added the following bug to the Kernel Team Hot List:
LP:914311[0]

* vt.handoff 7 seems to break the psb_gfx driver.
* Added to hot list since vt.handoff is unique to Ubuntu.

If anyone has some free cycles, it would be great if this bug could be
reviewed.
