ubuntu-education Digest, Vol 30, Issue 2
Hi everyone,
I've been on the list for a little while too, but have noticed the lack of activity.
I'm currently an MA student in Stanford's Learning, Design, and Technology program.* Definitely interested in the role of open-source in an increasingly digital education world.* Of course, it's not just about seeing what happens, but making it happen.
Best,
Paul Franz

I'm a social studies teacher in the Houston area and will be soon pursuing a
Master's in Instructional Technology. *In addition, I'm interested in what
open source/ubuntu have to offer to my class.

Wow! *That was quick -- responses from 5 different people in less than 30
minutes... *I know Steve R is also present in the Edubuntu user list.
Anyone else? *I ask because a number of people have been discussing (in
Edubuntu circles) how to bring more teacher-ish participation into the
edubuntu world. *I should say, I've been teaching full time since 1989 in
New York City for 2 years and the rest of time here in Minneapolis Minnesota
USA. *I'm working on several science education ideas involving Ed/Ubuntu and
technology, well there's lots of details (
http://plonedev.mpls.k12.mn.us/gcos) also on http://groosd.blogspot.com.
Thanks for your responses. *Here's another question--what would you
*really*like out of this listserv (weather or not it currently meets
this wish)?
Also, want to hit, 'reply-to-all' to keep all in the loop?
Thanks,
David

I'm here! *I'm the Technology Director for Winters ISD out here in the
West Texas area. *I'm also the current president of a statewide K-16
open source group here in Texas. *I'm in the process of converting some
computer labs over to Ubuntu (possibly Edubuntu) and using Virtual
Bridges VDI to provide Windows desktops when needed (such as for
PLATO). *Another goal after implementing Virtual Bridges VDI is to start
replacing desktops with thin clients, as needed and where appropriate,
and publish both a Windows and Ubuntu desktop via VDI.
I've poked a few people about putting together an 'Open Source in
Education' journal. *If anyone on the list is interested, I'll try to
set something up where we can collaborate together on the idea.

the Texas Linux Fest coming up April 10 in Austin.
