F-Spot in Gutsy with a default install will NOT display my photos, on my
Acer Aspire Laptop however Gthumb will. I would hope that all such
issues are resolved before choosing F-Spot over Gthumb.

Also you might want to include the dvd slideshow plugin for F-Spot if
you ship it. It's minimal yet but it does work.

How do you mean? Does it not support the file format, or is this a bug that should be reported?

I second the DVD slideshow plugin. It's very useful.

I agree with Mr. Remnant: F-Spot is beautiful and simple like, for
example, Microsoft Vista. But I don't think a pretty face should
distract us from considering Mr. Quigley's points: F-Spot is inefficent
and may violate Microsoft's patents.

Ubuntu users deserve beautiful things and they don't deserve to have
them taken away because we ignored potential patent violations.

It must be a bug because it works on every other machine I have tried.
I even did a fresh install. It must be something with X and the video
driver. Yes it should be reported.

Gthumb also has printing goodies that F-Spot doesn't handle. For
example select 2 photos and print in Gthumb, the result, great layout
tools. Do the same in F-Spot, crap. Fix F-Spot printing first I'd say.

According to MS, the Linux kernel violates many of their patents. Should
we remove the kernel, too?

That's not the right question, for patent issues the right question is:
Which is greater?
(Reward) Functionality provided by including software package by default.
(Risk) Possible costs (FUD and monetary) from patent issues.

I think the Reward < Risk for Mono, due to the majority of functionality already being provided.* Furthermore, I don't think helping Microsoft increase the use of a language they effectively control is a good thing.

I encourage you to read my specification (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/No-Mono-by-Default).*
Ignore patent issues for now, as we are obviously not coming to a consensus on that subject.

The gThumb removal surprised me as I have been watching (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReducingDuplication) and did not see any discussion on which to remove.

Thank You,
Bryan Quigley

For this problem you probably need to run lafilefixer --justfixit

Could you change your locale so that we can see the error messages in
English?

In addition, please also include a few more lines of the failed
compile. Right now the command that is generating the error is not
shown in its entirety.

The relevant error says: "No file or folder of this type". It seems
that it cannot find X11/extensions/XTest.h

Hi all,

gthumb-2.10.11
gcc-4.3.4

I have a problem with re-emerging gthumb
on my laptop. Nevertheless it works and I
can see pictures with it.
After a revde-rebuild I have this:

* Checking dynamic linking consistency
[ 46% ] * broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libduplicates.la (requires
-lesd)
* broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libjpegtran.la (requires -lesd)
* broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libphotoimporter.la (requires -lesd)
* broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libpngexporter.la (requires -lesd)
* broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libsearch.la (requires -lesd)
* broken /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libwebexporter.la (requires -lesd)
[ 59% ] * broken /usr/lib/libgthumb.la (requires -lesd)
[ 100% ]
* Generated new 3_broken.rr
* Assigning files to packages
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libduplicates.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libjpegtran.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libphotoimporter.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libpngexporter.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libsearch.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/gthumb/modules/libwebexporter.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* /usr/lib/libgthumb.la -> media-gfx/gthumb
* Generated new 4_raw.rr and 4_owners.rr
* Cleaning list of packages to rebuild
* Generated new 4_pkgs.rr
* Assigning packages to ebuilds
* Generated new 4_ebuilds.rr
* Evaluating package order
* Generated new 5_order.rr
* All prepared. Starting rebuild
emerge --oneshot media-gfx/gthumb:0

And the emerge fails with this:

-DGTHUMB_GLADEDIR=""/usr/share/gthumb/glade"" -O3 -march=pentium-m
-pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -MT totem-scrsaver.o -MD -MP -MF
.deps/totem-scrsaver.Tpo -c -o totem-scrsaver.o totem-scrsaver.c
totem-scrsaver.c:30:34: erreur: X11/extensions/XTest.h : Aucun fichier
ou dossier de ce type
make[3]: *** [totem-scrsaver.o] Erreur 1

make: *** [all] Erreur 2

* ERROR: media-gfx/gthumb-2.10.11 failed.

I don't have totem on my PC
I made a lafilefixer

Thank you for a help

Thank you for your answers.

That's it!
I tried to find out what to do, but in Google
I didn't find anything which helps.

I put xtest.h in /usr/include/X11/extensions
but it didn't work.

Perhaps something else?
I tried lafilefixer --justfixit without success.
When we read revdep-rebuild answer we can see
that the broken libs require -lesd
I can't find neither what it means nor what to do...
