What is the scoop with this extra line of information for every entry
in the fstab file? I tried googling ubuntu partitions but all I get are
instructions on how to install partitions. I can't remember any other
distro that I've used before having these extra lines. Is there a place
on the K/Ubuntu web site that will explain it?

No worries. It actually helped me on my problem, too.
