I just got a reply about my bug submission:
[Bug 215282] Re: intel video driver not working on Dell inspirion 1525
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 218242 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218242
** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 218242
DG33BU - Intel GMA 3100 - loaded -vesa rather than -intel
So I checked it out and somewhere in the comments it gave:
'fgrep drivers/ /var/log/Xorg.0.log' as a way to determine which driver x is using.
Mine now lists:
nigel@laptop:~$ fgrep drivers/ /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so
So it would seem that everything is now hunky-dory.
