after several months of use of Thunderbird, I "restart" to use KMail.
It seems to work well, even if I'm experimenting a slow behaviour using one
pop3 account, while my IMAP accounts are working quite well.
Please note that I have a very old system: PIV 2.8 Mhz / 1 Ghz RAM / 512 MB
video card, so I could safely say that the program is presently working quite
better.
I only have, hopefully, an issue with the "virtuosobackend", that it's not
working, because Nepomuk cannot find its configuration, so it autodisable the
semantic desktop and I cannot use the auto-completion and some other
features.
Any suggestions/hints, please?
Thanks and regards,

This blog posting is very clear on this issue:

title: Akonadi misconception #1: where is my data?
there is also postings in kde forums on forum.kde.org regarding KDE PIM
and several of these deal with location of email and how to find them in
case of Akonadi crash/problems.

thanks, you are correct
I usually move .kde/share/apps/nepomuk to some other folder (rename),
then reboot and watch cpu go crazy for a while. Then it should come
back. It does also depend on what version of KDE you are on, in 4.8.x
autocompletion and lists do not work
